hAP lite very slow

Hello,

I have a hAP lite (RB941-2nD-TC) (street cred: got it as a present on a Mikrotik convention) that I wanted to use as my home router but I`ve been experiencing unacceptably low speeds. The setup is the following:
ISP modem → hAP lite

  • –>100MBit switch → devices

  • –>Wireless

I never got it above 12 MBit/s on wifi even though the ISP supplied router is doing 60 MBit/s at least. Whether the hAP was the DHCP server or the ISP router made no apparent difference. Is this the expected speed from a low-end board serving ~10 devices or am I missing something?

Also, would you recommend replacing it with this one https://routerboard.com/RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN? Main selling points for me are:

  • wireless ac

  • 10 Ethernet ports (of which 5 are gigabit)

  • price

Thanks for your help,
David

Hello,

RB2011…2HnD… has dual-chain 2.4G WiFi (802.11n),
802.11ac is not supported for this model

Yep, just realised that myself. How about the hAP ac model?

Hello,

@hAP ac:
ac → 802.11ac

5x gigabit ethernet

go for it

My experience of the lite is that its slow and I’ve bricked two of them just updating the firmware and one just with it sat on the shelf.

HAP ac is a great bit of kit.

I’ve got two hAP lite towers (RB941-2nD-TC) acting as WiFi bridges connecting to a RB951G-2HnD and haven’t had any issues with them.

Easy to max out the ethernet speeds (tested them as a simple router and got this, too) and as WiFi bridges getting throughput appropriate with the distance and signal quality from the master AP.
