I am having a hard time finding the right components to build a Mikrotik box. I don’t know what size CPU I will need and how much ram. I have been looking at the supermicro motherboards, but don’t know which one to get? Here is what I need:
8 Copper Ethernet Gigibit ports for Canopy and Orthogon backhuals
We are Currently doing 40M down and 10M up on bandwidth usage
Basic Firewall rules, maybe a few bandwidth ques, Bandwidth Monitoring and usage.
I don’t know what type of machine it would take to do that? Can someone help me out with the machine I need or post an example of the setup you have so I can have an idea? I would like something to grow with.
Thanks,
J
Surely somebody has something they can share with me?
I recommend you get a managed switch and just a two port router. We use Dell managed switches put each AP on a different VLAN. Dell has a setting in their new switches that allows you to use a single VLAN for all port but isolate them from each other. Only the router can see everything. We then setup a separate VLAN for our WAN connections and connect them to the WAN side of the router.
For a router, you can go with the new RB1000. However, we use the affordable Dell rackmount servers and should easily handle the load you have.
If you are interested in pre-tested and designed solution, we sell PoweRouters. http://www.mikrotikrouter.com. These are 1U Industrial Systems, 100,000+ hour MTBF, 12 inches deep, with Front Mounted GigEs. Plenty of Processor power etc.
you can contact me at 314-686-1302 if you wish or just shoot a e-mail back at sales@mikrotikrouter.com
I will be happy to answer any questions!
