Hardware Challenge

There are tons of us here who would love to be able to have an Nstreme-capable client that works well with a laptop, but it does not exist.

Mikrotik has already stated previously that creating an Nstreme driver for Windows is out of the question.

So, how about cramming a RouterBoard and an R52Hn into an ExpressCard that appears to the laptop it is inserted into as an ethernet interface?

Slap a level 3 license onto it and we would finally have a truly mobile Mikrotik client device!

why not use a regular RouterBOARD CPE for the PCs?

Because the whole idea of someone having a laptop is portability - If they have to carry around an extra piece with cables, etc. and need to find an outlet every time they want to get on, it’s a problem.

We’re having a very difficult time competing with WiMAX/LTE providers entering our area that can connect a user with just an ExpressCard or PCMCIA Card that has a built-in foldout antenna.

and why do you specifically need nstreme for the laptops? isn’t 802.11n enough?

For this purpose a device like the yota egg would help.
Yota needs this as 2,xGHz licensed frequency gives limited
coverage. You suffer the same problem with express card.

Nstreme isn’t as vulnerable to interference as regular 802.11n - and Nstreme 2 with multple antennas is even more resilient.

Suppose you were providing service to a few city blocks - Better to use Nstreme 2 + 802.11N on 5GHz than the crowded 2.4GHz block.

Also, would be a really sweet device if paired with a 3.65GHz sudo-licensed spectrum block.

Hmm.. sounds like an interesting concept to me, especially when you consider nstreme’s polling capabilities, or even the new NV2. Me, I like the idea of a mikrotik firewall/QoS device on a plug in ethernet.. Not too fond of the winblows one in Win7.. >_<

That’s another great feature it would provide! you get a Mikrotik hardware firewall, but integrated into your laptop!

hmmm. something like the Yoggie linux would be nice - with USB interface

Maybe same board as inside the new device Groove - but without weatherproof case, but high gain omni (or maybe 2x2)?
