Is you guys from mikrotik plan to add more wireless chipset into mikrotik?
Im ask because there is few good cards on market with chipset which mikrotik dont suport like ACX 100 (from TI) , broadcom or ralink …
doesn’t make a sense - atheros alone is better than all three you mentioned together. You have to see the situation in reality - acx100 is 6 years old chipset etc, etc, all they are aimed at 2.4GHz only (!) - and that band is dead already. 5GHz is the way to go, with soon opening 10GHz solutions in Europe as 5GHz band is not capable of withstanding modern communication needs in urban areas already.
It have sence … ralink RT2500/2400 is good and cheap cards .

Also I have few broadcom based AP (linksys wrt54g) in my network , and all work OK , so why pci card will not be good also ?
In my country 5 ghz is still not regulated …
OH man I cannot believe … you say me that broadcom is bad? ![]()
Im curently running link with 2 linksys wrt54g in wds mode -distance 3 km without LOS … trought lot of woods … with 2 pacific wireless 19dbi antenas …
here is copy / paste from wireless status :
Rate: 24 mbps
WDS Signal (xxxxx): 00:12:17:DD:C9:8F rssi -81
firmware is sweasoft - Firmware Version: Alchemy-pre5.4a v2.04.4.8sv
and power is 200mw and link is stable like rock … ![]()
Im really suspicios that atheros can work in these conditions …
How I hear from friends (who use atheros) he is losing link when he have only 1 tree , when springs come (green)…
Problem with Broadcom is not have act-timing for long range link forget broadcom atheros is the best.
I see some testning results on internet two wrt54g broadcom on link
6km to 12km 1-2 Mbps
from 12km to 20 km 64Kbps it is very low.
I also have two wrt54g in wds mode distance 2,5km work (7000Mps average), but planing replace with mikrotik and atheros much better and much fastest solution.
This is mikrotik forum not Linksys but if you want beter preformace for wrt54 try to lower output power to 60-80mW, 200mW on wrt54 have big noise.
Pozdrav…
Oh so this is the right answer : no act-timing for long range link
I also know for noise …
But in my situation (No LOS) broadcom is work OK.
Yes I will plan to lower power but Im afraid of losing conection …
Hm I know that this is mikrotik forum … not for linksys , im just compare different chipset …
Also does anybody have expiriance with Ralink ?
Some friends tell me that (under Windows and Mandrake) this chipset work OK.
Thanks!
