Just wondering if there is a known safe method of rolling back from v7 to v6?

Sure…do you have an export file of the 6 version?

I’ve rolled back following documentation (https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/RKB/Downgrading+RouterOS) without problems!
Summing up:

  • Copy the firmware file (.npk) on Mikrotik’s root folder


  • Execute the “/system/package/downgrade” command


  • Reboot the device

Possibly somewhere buried away. Failing that a fresh config is fine, I'm more bothered about not wanting to roll back and brick the Hex it's on.

Rolled back 3, no issues

hexPoE, tested RC4 then reverted to 6.47.10 - did this twice with the procedure described above, with no problems whatsoever.

I rolled back but just because I needed to try something. So upgraded again almost instantly. Therefore I did not restore a config but just kept the one from 7.1rc4.
Some stuff was broken after the downgrade. I lost my default route for example. But really did not dig deeper into it.
