Hate new firmware versioning

So now the firmware version updates with EVERY release. This really bugs me. I only want it to update IF there is a change. So as of right now, why don’t they just make firmware updating part of the upgrade process instead of having it be a 2 part process if they aren’t going to seperate versioning???

I think most admins are in agreement, I haven’t seen anyone who is a fan of the new firmware versioning!

I don’t mind the firmware versioning matching the ROS versions, as long as it doesn’t look like the firmware has changed when it actually hasn’t, and that is really what the problem is at the moment. For instance, if ROS 6.42.3 was the last time there was a firmware update for a certain device, I would rather that 6.42.3 be ‘current’ for firmware for that device, instead of having false 6.42.4, 6.42.5, etc. “updates” that are actually completely identical to 6.42.3 in terms of firmware. Why not simply have the firmware version match the last ROS version when a firmware change was actually made?

Or at least if the firmware has not changed, update the printed firmware version without actually requiring update of the device.
