hello i have installed 2 rb493ah already and when i got the third one on its tower i started having a reebooting issue with it , i had tested everthing already on the bench here in the usa but now my installer is having issues in honduras. here is the setup
tower 1 has a 24 dbi roo with rb493 and r52h send signal to tower 2 also with a rb493ah 24 dbi roo a r53h and also has a xr5 connected to a 23dbi antenna pointed to tower 3. link between tower 1 and 2 is very good.
on tower 3 i have a rb493ah with only a xr5 with 23dbi antenna pointed at tower 2. when we power it up it connects with tower 2 and then after maybe 1 min or less it locks up then it reboots and the whole proccess starts over. i have changed out the 24v poe twice , had electrician check out polarity on ac power and ground. changed out the cat5, run power up the tower thinking not enought current is getting up the 140 ft cat5. still same problem wont stop rebooting. the error i get is that it rebooted without proper shutdown probley due to power outage. i am running 3.17 on all 3 boards they all were purchased at same time all config is similiar just normal routing with rip no encryption , have changed power on tower 3 from 28db to 26 db and still same problem. As i said I am not on site or I would have tried more things already , i am trying to get installer to try different things but he is getting frustrated so i am trying to do proper research to find out what might be causing the issues before he does more testing. I am at the point that i am purchasing new rb493ah to send down there but that will take at least 2 weeks and need to get this link up as soon as possible as i have a client waiting on it.
Take the RB493AH off the tower and troubleshoot this on the ground. You said it is rebooting after 1 minute. Does it do this even with the radio disabled? With the radio removed? What do you see on the serial port output before the reboot?
Does it reboot with power plugged into the jack or only POE?
Have you measured the power output of your 24 volt supplies? Are they regulated and staying well under 28 volts which is the maximum?
You said you changed the output of the xr5. Best practice says xr cards should be left on the default power settings.
Have you upgraded the firmware? Go to terminal mode… sy ro u
ok i uninstalled the rb today (well had installer remove it) it does not reeboot if the xr5 is disabled or removed. we changed the xr5 to a different slot , no difference, we upgraded to 3.22 made no difference, we set power on xr5 to 18db no difference, set tx power to default, no difference, changed transmit frequency , no difference. yes the POE is only putting out 24 volts. When i tested this on the bench i had it set to station, that is the only difference between now and then becuase i have it as AP bridge now. And i was so frustrated by the time i had tried everthing else i did not try it in station mode again. I dont have a serial cable handy there on site to try and see what error it shows before the reboot.
End result, no matter what i have tried the only way to get it not to reboot is disable or uninstall the xr5.
Could this be a problem with the XR5?? And not actually the RB?? Anybody else ever have this problem?
I did disable watchdog and it did not help, no i dont have another xr5 to try but i did buy a couple of r5h’s and r52h and a few rb192’s , i am going to honduras next week to work on this problem myself to try and get this link up and running , hope all goes well.
If it is powered VIA PoE make sure your CAT5 termination is in accordance with IEEE standards and also place a network analyzer to make sure you have no (opens, shorts) in the termination.
I have also had defective CAT5 ends cause this type of event, new CAT5 ends solved the problem for me.
The terminals in one batch were allowed to somehow interfere with adjacent terminals.
Regardless of the power supply method make sure you don’t have a power supply which is intermittently shutting down which would cause reboots too.
If you are using PoE to power the RB try using onboard power jack instead also??
hello all thanks for the help, i am now in honduras and have found that this xr5 will also make 2 other rb192 ´s reboot. i changed out the xr5 on my rb493ah with a r5h and no more rebooting problem , i also tried using the power plugged dirrectly into the rb and still rebooted with the xr5! So i assume that this is a falty xr5 i hope they will swap it out for me, i have another rb493ah with a xr5 and never had trouble with it so it is not a incobatability issue, Oh one other thing is that the CPU maxed out right before the rb´s reebooted each time with the xr5.´
HI all,
I had problems like this I would say the same problem my router restarted every minut maybe often, when I used PoE. I tried to change cable, adapter but same.
After that I used adater jack about 18 W power and now I don’t have any problems and I am running without problems for more than a month.
