Let first state that I’m a noob to this level of networking but I’m sure I can pick up fast.
So lately I have found my self needing to purchase security cameras for my house and had the idea of trying to tie network cameras in to my current network so I could access them from the web.
Well then I learned about Poe and lead me to needing a PoE switch, I don’t even know if this router I purchased is even what I need to achieve my goal I just know that i can’t get it to reset set to factory defaults win on keeps saying wrong username and password. Which should be admin for username and no password
It’s almost if the reset button don’t even work. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Maybe you didn’t reset correctly. Have you proceeded exactly according to the manual? Anyway this is not poe switch. It will not be able to power your cameras directly.
Router is good for routing. It is able to make tons of other things which you can read on ROS manual web pages.
This model has two swithes that could be used for switching between the ports of each switch. Otherwise you can bridge the ports or switch groups together if you want. The performance will be dependent on the config you make and you can set it as you wish from the networking point of view, limited by its architecture - see the block diagram on the product page. Even each port could be part of some switch, it is easily possible to unbound the port from the switch and use it for whatever purpose as separate port (virtually) directly connected to CPU.
For powering cameras you need to put poe injector between this router and the camera according to the camera specification. If you want to have one device powering multiple cameras, you need to select something named “poe switch” that will be able to meet the requirements of the cameras (number of powered ports, supported powering standard, provided current per port and in sum of all ports).
