HD BACKUP, IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Hi people.

I recently sold a mikrotik hotspot solution, and we sign a contract with our costumer that, in short words, we lost money if the server stop working. So i would like to have a backup of the HD`s PC where i will install RouterOS with the licence level 6.

Can i do this? i mean, can i make a backup of the entire HD including the licence, to have if someday the HD of that PC fails, then go with the second HD, change it, and dont lose money?.

Thank you for your time Mikrotik People!. Please give me good news!!!.

no

Haven’t tried duplicating a MT drive, but it would be easy enough for you to test.
Two options:

In linux, you can dd the drive
dd bs=1m if=/dev/hdb of=/dev/hdc
will copy hdb to hdc. It will take a while but will be an exact duplicate of the drive.

Another option would be to run the hotspot controller as a virtual machine (such as in Xen or VMware). Then the hard drive (with routerOS license on it) is just a portable file on the hypervisor “host” machine. I’ve got a couple MTs running on the same machine with Xen, so I know that works fine.

You can duplicate the data, but as far as I know, the license won’t work on the second drive because it’s tied to the hardware serial number or something on the drive.

Ok Thank you guys!.

Thas not good news, i hope the mikrotik people thikn about this possibiliti in next releases. Is very important to have a second HD with the RouterOS and his licence backuped.

I wouldn’t hold my breath… Look at this topic: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/upgrade-license/19516/1

it’s not working.

Okey people, after saw that topic, I think that i put my finger in the hole, or in a wrong place. hehehe.

I will try through support, to see what they say, in a not public place.

Thank you for everything!!
