Hello

Hello guys greetings from macedonia, my name is igor and nice to meet you. Recently i have bought an RB411+WLM54AG from a friend to use it like WiFi client and now i have a beginer problem. Routerboard was protected with password, i dont know the password so i reset the board with defaults on. My home network setup is something like this, See the pic:

As you can see:

  1. My RB411+WLM54AG is connected to a switch.
  2. My router is connected with 2 cables, 1 for motorola canopy (from my ISP) and 1 cable to link it with switch
  3. My switch is connected with RB411 & internet link 2 cables, and the 3 cable is for direct link with my PC

And now i want to ask you, I can access my RB with winbox, but i want it to change the firmware, i have searched the internet for answers, and i found some tutorital to update with Netinstall, but.. when i run netinstall i cannot find my RB.. but i can find it with WinBox.. why? Also, i want it to use this RB with Aircrack-ng but also, i cannot view my RB, can somebody tell me please what to do, im new at mikrotik, but i want to learn! Thanks!!

P.s sorry about my bad english..

Thanks! Igor Karevski from Macedonia

Hi Igor

Try to use winbox instaed.

  1. Check in winbox / system / License that your current RouterOS is upgradeable to the version that you want to upgrade to
  2. Download the combined package from http://www.mikrotik.com/download.html
  3. open winbox and click on files in the left menu to open the files window and just drag and drop the package to the file window in winbox.
  4. reboot the router

Try to connect winbox to the RB411 using the IP address instead of the mac addr.

As you get your RB411 setup and know how to set up the nat/dhcp/firewall/etc. then I think you should consider taking your gembird router out of the loop - if wifi then just using it as an AP.

You cannot run applications like Aircrack-ng on RouterOS. Instead you need to find and install an open Linux OS on the RouterBoard like ddwrt or openwrt.

Since this is the RouterOS forum, you are asking in the wrong place. I suggest that you visit forums for the wrt products and see if they install on the Mikrotik RB411 and support your target application.
