Help choosing router version

Hello.

I was a happy camper at Ubiquiti using their Edgerouter Lite.
After combining multiple living units, I have met some performance problems when using VLANs, QoS and OpenVPN.

I have questions in 2 categories:

  • Functionalities:
  • Force VLAN over an OpenVPN connection? If the VPN goes down = no connection.
  • Force multiple VLANs over same OpenVPN connection (have a VLAN for each living unit, but limited VPN connections)
  • QoS og VLANs (supporting both guaranteed and ceiling/using available bandwidth)
  • I will be using this router as replacement for ERL, which means I still have Unifi APs setup with radius for dynamic vlan (802.11x), is this a problem? Not important as VLANs are set when authenticating at AP.
  • Performance:
  • Handle 500Mbps down and 100Mbps up INCLUDING VLAN, NAT, firewall and QoS

Ccr1009. Note the ovpn is not ethernet like tunnel, it cannot carry vlans. Use eoip for vlans instead.

I just tried adding a VLAN under an OVPN interface and it was added ok.
I didn’t try passing traffic through it, but it seems that it is supported.

The OVPN interface was in ethernet mode which means that it can pass ethernet frames (so probably vlans too)

I haven’t used dynamic vlans, but I think I saw somewhere in these forums a request for this feature on ROS.
It’s not implemented AFAIK.

Maybe I was not precise enough. I do not need to tunnel VLANs over OVPN. I need to pass traffic from multiple VLANs through one OVPN interface.

Ok. If possible, could you please try connecting multiple VLANs to same OVPN interface (and passing traffic to Internet for each VLAN?) O:-)

Not important. I see that ERL doesn’t have dynamic VLAN support either, VLANs are set upon authentication when user connects to WLAN 802.11x
