Help design my home network, general advise

Hi everyone,

Hope you are having a nice quiet time with friends and family. Maybe a bit bored like me, wanting to get that networking done finally.
I have been accumulating hardware for my house and garage for some time now and it is time to connect it and set it up.
For the past week, I have been trying to get two networks “Guest” and “Admin”, as I call them, going.

If someone is willing to give me some advice on how should I configure this setup (diagram below), I don’t need step by step guide, just the main tasks.
There seem to be many ways to skin that cat, I am only learning to walk with the concept of VLAN

I am trying to connect MikroTik RouterBoard hAP ac3 (I would like it to do all of the work), a couple of switches, and a few wifi access points, all different brands but I am familiar with the interfaces. Except for the one of MikroTik RouterBoard hAP ac3 :frowning:

Any advice is much appreciated. A simple list like

  1. Crete this (no need for click here, click there guide) just general strokes
  2. Set this so it can do that, the same style I understand how time is scarce for everyone.

I appreciate any advice.

Nick

First read this article.

http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/using-routeros-to-vlan-your-network/126489/1
one bridge
use vlans for all subnets.
One trunk port to hp switch

rest is up to switch settings.

The issue I have is your unmanaged switch to Access points.
Are they smart access points (can read vlan tags or not)

The wifi on hapac3 is easy
WLAN admin is associated with admin vlan in bridgeport settings
WLAN guest is associated with guest vlan in bridgeport settings

Thank you for the reply, anav.
And happy holidays
