HELP! Need Help on IXP BGP Peering

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your usual supports. I have a present active BGP Peering with an upstream IP transit provider (10G) through which I advertise 2 prefixes (10.1.1.0/24 & 10.2.2.0/24). I receive full updates + default routes from this provider.

I am looking to peer with an IXP for local routes (1G) on same router; partial updates + default route.

I need guidance on adding IXP peer and engineering outgoing request for routes in country ASNs through IXP and all other requests through IP transit provider.

Please see attached topology.
My router(CCR 2004 v7) = ASN A
IP Transit provider = ASN B
IXP = ASN C

Kindly help a brother

Hi Friends,

I am still awaiting suggestions please :folded_hands:

This seems fairly straightforward. Just add a routing filter that applies to the IXP and sets BGP weight to 200, as they are only sending you domestic routes is that correct?
Everything else will use the other transit provider

Hi Millennium 7,

Yes, this is correct. They are sending domestic routes + a default route.

I will tryout your suggestion in the coming week and provide an update.

Thanks.

Give it a go but it’s fairly straightforward, Weight is a parameter that will stay locally on your router so you can freely modify it and it won’t propagate to other routers.

If you start needing to add more complexity, multiple transit providers with equal costs, multiple BGP transit routers etc then you want to organize your routing filters in a hierarchical way. In this case 1 or 2 rules should be all you need
If you really get stuck, reach out to me as I contract to ISP’s needing to build up a scalable network structure
