Help needed! How to take a port off bridge-local...

Hi there,

I am a complete newbie here trying to set-up the RB2011 I got a couple of days ago. For 2 days now I am banging my head against a wall.

I have 2 WAN connections - one DHCP and one PPPoE. My idea is to set-up one on ether1 (easy) and the other one on ether2. Now this is where I hit the wall - in order to set-up WAN on ether2 I need to take it off bridge-local (otherwise all machines on bridge-local get their DHCP messed up). This is my understanding after countless searches on Google, a few youtube videos, some tiktube videos and a little bit of wiki. If I am wrong, let me know.

So this is what I do:

  1. Set-up DHCP WAN on ether1
  2. Set-up PPPoE WAN on ether2 (cannot connect)
  3. Set-up masquerading
  4. Set-up Routes (if needed, it usually automatically sets it up).
  5. Remove ether2 from bridge-local (tried both remove and disable) - then PPPoE connects immediately without a problem.

After step 5 PPPoE connects and I can use either WAN connection, but this only lasts either a few minutes or some seconds. After this the router disconnects and I cannot get an IP from DHCP server (dhcp is set-up on RB2011). With manual IP (192.168.88.xx) I get timeout when trying to connect to router (tried both wireless and wired connections).

From here on the only solution is reset configuration.

I am probably doing something wrong and I would definitely appreciate, if someone could help here. At the end I am trying to do an extremely simple thing and it is very hard - I just need two WAN connections to work simultaneously. It seems all the guides for this in the world assume that the connections are already set-up.

Thanks in advance.
