I have a single CIR pipe (VSAT) shared between 4 customers using PPPoE and wireless links. Each PPPoE link is a separate “user” in User Manager and users at each of the 4 locations log on to their own hotspot. All users are managed through the main router user Manager.
I want to apply profiles to the “link” users so as to give each customer a QoS corresponding to what they will pay. I am looking for the best / most common way of doing this.
Lets say I have 2/1 CIR
Customer 1 will pay 50% of the cost
Customer 2 will pay 25%
Customer 3 will pay 12.5%
Customer 4 will pay 12.5%
What settings should I use in User Manager profile limitations; for instance divide the CIR total up according to the ratio that they will pay and use those values in rate-limit, with 2/1 as the burst rate? In that case what to use for burst threshold, burst time and min rate? Should the burst rate be set maximum or some mid-way value for best performance/user experience?
I have limited experience/feel for this, I would appreciate some comments from people who know better.
I am managing a provincial government project in a developing country. In a rural area, a VSAT connection is shared between five offices using a Mikrotik solution
offices. each offices has it’s own hotspot for users to connect and log on to. The PPPoE links have associated user accounts in User Manager also. So I can apply QoS to both the link “users” and individual users. Each link user could be thought of as a separate customer.
The idea is to share bandwidth and costs. Thus, we need to know an acceptable bandwidth / QoS for each link (customer) and a way to enforce it so that they are confident they get what they pay for.
Initially all users and link users had unlimited profiles (in User Manager) Over 3 months we have seen the usage requirement to pan out based on relative traffic over each link as about 40%/20%/15%/10%/13%
