Hi,
I’ve been involved with a small wireless co-op for sometime.
We’ve recently contracted for some 5.8 ghz bandwidth which we’ll spread through our hilly region via 900 mhz wireless (Waverider). The backhaul (Ubiquiti) where we’re bringing in the bandwidth is in place. Initial requirements for the router are to NAT source addressing. Using the RB433AUH (v 4.13) I’ve been able to get the DHCP-server set up OK as well. This appears to work OK in tests.
My problem (at the moment) is properly interpreting the IP addresses that the ISP sent me (he also sent a temporary block of 8 public addresses to test with).
His email states (octets changed): “the IP address for your router is 9.216.12.74 Mask 255.255.255.252, the gateway or default router at my end of the link is 9.216.12.74. DNS is …etc., etc.” To my archaic way of thinking the router IP address and gateway appear to be the same.
I believe the IP address for the router translates into 9.216.12.74/30. When I activate the router, the dhcp-server works correctly. The route from the access point to the internet gateway ends at the router…which seems logical from the way settings have been entered.
Obviously I’m misinterpreting his instructions.
I’d very much appreciate some enlightened comments on the matter…and thanks for the help.
