Help with simple routing configuration (What am i missing?)

Hi I’ve got the following config in my RB411

The External interface is connected to an 172 ip network
The ethernet connected to my 192.168.1.0 network

On my machine I’ve got a static route setup 172.16.0.0 mask 255.240.0.0 gateway 192.168.1.200 which should send all 172 traffic to the ethernet interface on the RB411

When I try to ping 172.20.1.1 from my machine I’m unable to get a response, I can however ping 192.168.1.200 which is the ethernet interface on the RB411

From the RB411 I can ping both 172.20.1.1 and my machine 192.168.1.100

Any idea what I’m missing, my firewall is set to do mascurading.

PS on my previous post - the problem was resolved by replacing the RB411 board - harware error

Does your machine know that 172 network is at 192.168.1.200 ?
You’ll need a route somewhere. On your machine or router your machine is connected to.
