I’ll start by saying I’m kind of new to this, but anyway. I’m having trouble getting SNMP working on a RB493AH. I’m trying to run MRTG from my web server so that i can store the graphs to it for display on a web page. I have enabled SNMP and filled in what i believe is the necessary information, but when i run my cfgmaker command it says SNMPWALK Problem for that string and IP:::::v4only. Then it says Skipping as no info could be retrieved. I"m sure I’m missing something simple but could anyone shed some light on it for me. Thanks for any help.
Make sure that your community strings match. In the router the address or subnet for your web server should be attached to the community string or use 0.0.0.0/0 to allow access from anywhere. Check that port 161 is not blocked by firewall rules in the router and web server.
If you learn the syntax for mrtg, manually edited config files can be better than using cfgmaker.
