Help with the basics please

I have broadband connection through and aerial on my roof. It came supplied with a routeros v5.5. The ip address for the router is 192.168.1.251. The board name is RB411 and the version is 5.5. It gives me the option on connecting by winbox or webfig.

When I try and connect using winbox it puts admin as the username and leaves the password blank, When I connect it says wrong username or password. I do not know what these are but research I have done says it should be admin and password left blank.

If I try connect using webfig it asks for a username and password. Again admin and blank fails to connect as the username or password are incorrect.

Can anyone give me any advice on hour to I connect to the router.

Thanks

Who set this up? You need to get password from them or reset the router.

You should check with your provider. The Mikrotik products are used by many Wireless ISPs (WISPs) and they have most likely secured the unit so that only their staff can access it.

It is set up in Italy and I live in England although I can access the router in Italy remotely.

I have a Foscam wireless webcam and need to set up port forwarding to view the camera over the internet. The http port for the webcam is 8090. From what I understand I have to log onto router to access the port forwarding/mapping to change the setting so I can log onto the webcam.

I presume that this cannot be done without knowing the username and password to get on the router. I would welcome any advice/suggestions to help resolve the problem.

Thanks

If the router is part of the WISP’s equipment (usually called Customer Premises Equipment - CPE) then they have probably secured it intentionally.

WISPs are often more approachable than the likes of BT though - so ask them if they can forward the port for you.
