I used to think hEX device are equipped with 880 MHz dual-core CPU, but this device was a distant for me for quite a long time. Now I got one in my hands to play with, and I was quite surprised to see I can set its CPU to run at: 600, 700 and 88 MHz. That is, I have no way to step it up, just one or two step down.
Before this, all RouterBoards I’ve ever seen allowed me to make one step up and (sometime) one step down, so the default speed wasn’t fastest, and I have a chance to speed the device up a bit (despite the stability issues I might see). Now I see the default speed is the fastest, so I’d like to ask: why was this changed (pure marketing?), and why on Earth will I even need to speed it down two steps (to 600 MHz)?
Just to understand current Mikrotik performance and marketing policy.
