I had a network system as seen in the picture. I wanted to set up a backup network, they told me to buy a Mikrotik HEX E50UG and do it with it, but I can’t do it, I’m waiting for your help.
Nice drawing but you don’t show
- what is not working
- how does your current config look like
- how do you want it to work
A bit more info please.
If I get this right, you want to use the new Hex as a failover selector between the Master and Backup wireless links.
While I think that it is possible to make the thingy work on the same subnet, normally this kind of setup is done using different subnets, so in this your intended setup is slightly more complicated than most common ones.
In a similar (but not identical) situation I used a VRF approach on the Mikrotik device.
Questions:
- which IP’s do you have on the rightmost ASUS RT-AX 86U ?
- which kind of speed do you have on the wireless PTP link(s) ?
- which IP’s do you have “free” (I am guessing that everything on the left side of your scheme is static IP’s and there is a DHCP server running on the rightmost ASUS RT-AX 86U)
Could they do it for you? If it’s a WISP advise then they should help even if you pay for device. How you can test it if you do not know what happens on their side if main link dies. Do they care of it or just push the traffic to that interface on and on? There is a little sense to have a backup if both ways terminate at the same device at their side.
