Can i use long-term service firmware for my mikrotik hex refresh?
One needs to know what factory firmware version is installed.
My guess would be version V7.x, which does not have a LTS version up till now.
Is it necessary to have an LTS?
There is no LTS version yet for ROS7 and since Hex Refresh came out of factory with 7.15.3 (I have one right here on my desk), you can not go lower.
But I have the same remark: why the question for LTS ?
Why the question asking the question?
Typically the LTS is acutally the most stable version available, who doesnt want that (rhetorical question)!
However, I have moved off vers6 on my main router recently to ver 7.16, as an LTS for ver7 seems unlikely. ![]()
Personal view:
To be honest, the way MT handles their versions, LTS-label is not really worth a lot to me.
Some may value it as being super stable (based on what ??) but there will always be bugs in it which are sorted out in subsequent non-LTS versions.
Which is the more stable then ? LTS or the next dot version ? Or the one after that ?
The only way to get a real LTS version is to do a full scope freeze and only fix bugs. No new features which again introduce new bugs for that branch.
I prefer however as it is now where they do introduce new stuff and keep fixing bugs but LTS on itself as a label … that really has no added value.
ROS7 exists since what ? End of 2019, somewhere 2020 ? That is almost 5 years without LTS version for ROS7. So why focus on it ?
Look at ROS6 chain
LTS is 6.49.13
But regular stable goes to 6.49.17
Are those changes not needed for stability ?
Depends on what you use it for, obviously …
LTS is more stable in my opinion, although we cannot fully remove bugs but the bug in lts is more less than stable i think
yep sir, you’re correct. more stable than stable release. (less bug)
sir, can i message you on your facebook?
Dream on … LTS for ROS7 would be exactly the same quality as any other stable release.
The point being is that 7.16 has most of the vers7 bugs worked out and has all the latest security improvements and most access to newest features.
Its the way to go for sure at this point. If one has a business or provides services to businesses, the recommendation always is to test new firmware in a sandbox of sorts, prior to deploying.
Facebook? Try the useless discord channel for MT, I could be reached there…

Sir! it’s possible to make all the device in 10.10.10.0/24 will have fair shared bandwidth? example i alllocated 100mbps in total for that subnet. then in that subnet have a 5 connected device, they will share fairly in 100mbps so 20mbps per device?

For this, queues are used - https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/spaces/ROS/pages/328088/Queues. On the forum, search for “QoS” or “queue”.
