maybe you have a good idea for me ? I got a brandnew mikrotik hEX few weeks ago. Had an issue with the config, couldnt access it anymore. Tried to use the reset button and “click” it broke off the board and fell into the case . I removed it from the case already, but I have no option anymore to reset the device or do anything with it.
Any magic button or something that I can do to access it ? Or any chance to put a new button, wires or whatever ? I would love to use it, like this its 70€ for a nice white case ..
If you don’t want go “guarantee” road then find any electronic service and ask for replacing the button. For good serviceman it’s a piece of cake.
You can solder two wires yourself to pads and install any convinient switch outside the case …
BTW: Opening a case is allowed without loosing warranty.
What is your definition of touch? Does that also apply to the CCR2004-1G-2XS-PCIe that has part of the board protruding? There are no "seals to break", so unless you left visible evidence, how would they even know it was "touched"?
Either way too much force was applied to the reset button, or there was a defect in either the switch or the soldering. At least I can't think of any other plausible explanations. And this is a recessed switch, so it can't be pressed "accidentally".
This would be like you getting a new mobile phone, and when you inserted the USB C charger, the USB jack broke off the board. Wouldn't you consider that a defective mobile phone?
If this was really a new router, the switch shouldn't easily "break off the board". That's an indication of a defect in the product. Unless he took a small nail (what we call brads or tacks in the USA), inserted it into the reset hole and hit the nail with a hammer, but that doesn't fall under "normal" usage.
Just contact you seller about this. The switch seems to be surface soldered. Removing the loose switch from the case should not void your warranty because you made sure this way that no further damage was done when using the hEX.
Better would be not have used the hEX again before contacting the hEX. To avoid loosing the when sending back the hEX you can put switch again in housing.
Put a label/sticker on it warning to not use the use the hEX unless removing the loos switch.
I contacted my seller, I sent it back and they told me that “it was manipulated” and they sent it back to me telling me, the warranty was gone. This already took 3-4 weeks. Because I expected that, I had bought a 2nd hEX which now works fine, but I dont like having a “new broken piece of hardware” here ..
To be honest, I dont know whom to contact here where we live, not sure if we have “such good” electronic device services here.
finding the correct part is going to be the biggest problem. That’s a small switch, and most right angle switches have multiple posts that go through solder through holes; it appears this must be surface mount (based on the picture of the other side of the board, but it may be hiding under the micro sd card holder.
It does appear excessive pressure was applied, looking at the broken switch. Whether you got it in that condition would be hard to prove. And it isn’t something that could easily happen without something being inserted into the reset hole or during manufacturing, and that may be something that isn’t tested during manufacturing “defect testing”. The RB760iGS has the reset on the side where the USB slot and mode switch is, but what is odd on the RB760iGS is that the mode switch is different than the reset switch (the reset switch on the RB760iGS looks similar to what the one on the RB750Gr3.
