hide routeros version broadcasting

Hi,
Is there possibility to hide routeros version, broadcasting by wlan card ?
I don’t want to someone scanning around my network,to be able to see which version of routeros i’m using …
Any idea?

thx.

How is it broadcasting your RouterOs version? If you’re taking about the Neighbour discovery function, simply disable discovery on the interfaces that you do not want to be discovered on.

Go to IP > Neighbours > Interfaces and disable the interfaces you want to be discovered on.

Make sure you know the IPs and MAC addresses of your RouterOS devices as Winbox will not detect it for you any more.

I do that, but scanning ether, there is still information about routeros version.

Any idea?

Hi,

What tool do you use for scanning?
What ROS version is installed?
Winbox don’t discover interfaces with disabled neighbours discovery.
Tested on ver.4.11, maybe previous has a bug.

Regards, Grzegorz.

I use scan tool from MT.
I have Ros 3.30 both (on scanning device, and on scanned device)
Yes, winbox doesn’t discovery scanned device (I switched off all interfaces from neighbour, also ethernet) and scanned device disappoints from /ip neighbour from devices bridged together with this MT.

On ROS 4.10 same effect.
Maybe I don’t ask clearly.
I want to reach effect, when I scan WLAN card air around, I should not see which version of routeros is used on the other AP that i can see around.

OK, now I see.
Unfortunately, I don’t know how this works, maybe you should ask MT staff?

Regards, Grzegorz.

WOuld liek to know if this is possible also…

this information is needed so that nstreme and nv2 can work. currently it’s not possible to turn this off.

normis, is this only the case with nv2 or nsteme enabled?

yes, but this data is included in any case.

is it possible to hide ROS version now?
this topic is from 2010 - maybe something has changed?

or can we change it to other name instead of RouterOS…

You’ll not see routerOS version in when scanning with WLAN only if you use NV2.

Hello! I bought my first MT hac router and so far loving it, very customizable
I did some experiments that lead me to this thread because Router Model was showing as RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT and Router Name as MikroTik

Found that Router Name can be changed in System → Identity, after a restart
Router Model couldnt find anything

I dont think i was using NV2 in Wireless protocol. I had 802.11 selected. But dont remember seenig this info when i first started it, so i did a reset configuration and now both fields are blanks which is good, it seems to me that the router model is not always broadcasted, independently of NV2 on or off.

So after the reset, i set a security profile and bang , router info broadcasted.
So it seems to me that if Security Profile is set, other than default, router info will broadcast.
why i dont know

See advanced options in wireless. There is radio name field that you probably refer to.

Here is 2 pics

First one, NV2 doesn’t display the RoS version

Second one, NStream sectors, showing the version

If you secure your network correctly, you don’t need to worry about the version displayed.

A quick question, to the left of the address. there is things like ARTB/RNB

What does that stand for?

So, after 15 years there is still no option to hide ROS version from broadcast packets. If you say it's required for nstreme/nv2, what is the problem to hide it for 802.11? I don't want this information being available for everyone around.

Personally, I see it as a "help" for potential attackers, if they know about any vulnerabilities in some specific RouterOS version.
