High CPU load 100 % on RB 133

I am having a 100% cpu load on my rb 133, while no clients are connected to the router.
Just I am connected to the router, no clients except me are connected, and the router is most of the time on high cpu load, often it goes to 100%.

Routeros is 4.17 ( i tried upgrading to v 5.26 but it was even worse)

Thank you for your help

Have you firewall rules running?

For RB 100 series the only right version is ros 3.30.

Yes i have about 30 regular firewall rules, i had also a script for paypal payments, see here: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/PayPal_with_hotspot_and_walled_garden_bypass
which was creating additional firewall rules, (about 50 additional rules), so i will try to disable the script and see if it will help.

For RB 100 series the only right version is ros 3.30.

where can i download the old router OS? and the old Firmware?

Thanks

3.30 - http://www.mikrotik.com/download/all_packages-mipsle-3.30.zip

or upgrade to 5.26 and see in tool-profile what use your CPU

Keep in mind that on RoS 3.30 there is no nv2.

This is the method how to downgrade

Thank you for your suggestions.

I will try them out and see if i can fix this.

Goodluck

or upgrade to 5.26 and see in tool-profile what use your CPU

Upgraded to ROS 5.26, to see detailed cpu load.

While i am testing, i have 1 wireless client and 2 Ethernet client PC-s connected to the router, one of them is downloading updates, i get following cpu 74% constantly (while the client is downloading updates):
Is it normal to have such high cpu load with just 3 clients connected to the rb?

So, if you turn your queues and firewall rules off does the CPU load go back down? Have you considered upgrading to another router? Running a hotspot on an RB-133 won’t allow too many host anyway.

I think firewall rules are heavy to load.

Try with disable firewall rules and look than to cpu load.

Maby sold another routerboard like RB2011 series with a 600 MHz CPU.
I know it’s radical but is the best solution.

imaljko4, were you able to resolve this?

I have a lot of rb133’s which I’m not using anymore. Replaced them because they are no good anymore in present day with this processor.
With a few firewall rules and some wireless connections the cpu maxes out at around 10mbit/s. This is just their limit.

CyberTod has it right

Yes, I’ve become greedy :sunglasses: and I much prefer the extra CPU power of the newer devices.

I have tried disabling all firewall rules, exept the ones which are used for Hotspot (they are created automatically by hotspot),
I don’t have any queues rules setup, (exept the default ones, which are created by mikrotik):

/queue interface
set ether1 queue=ethernet-default
set ether2 queue=ethernet-default
set ether3 queue=ethernet-default

Still i am getting almost the same cpu load, (the most cpu load still goes on queues and firewall).

I can still try to downgrade to Ros 3.30, if it doesn’t help i will have to use a newer RB.

thanks for help
