High delay on requests to Mikrotik ntp server

All-

I think that the problem I’m about to describe is with my LAN because I couldn’t find similar posts. However, I’ll ask to see whether anyone else is having the same problem.

I have the ntp package (client/server) installed. My workplace computers use a third party SNTP client (AboutTime) to sync to the server. Requests from the client are sent out on 192.168.88.1 The problem is that there is often a round trip delay of around 50ms. This time should be close to 0ms, given everything is on a local LAN. In fact, if I use one client of AboutTime to sync to another configured as a server, the client shows 0ms. Why 50ms when syncing to Mikrotik?

Does anyone have a similiar experience?

Thanks!

what hardware do you use for NTP server?

I’m using the ntp package on a RB750G as the server. I’m seeing a roundtrip delay of 50ms on the LAN for a request from a workstation to the RB750G ntp at times. I’m simply pointing the computer to the gateway address of 192.168.88.1

Thanks!

Ive noticed that on my RB1000. Sometimes windows and ROS clients both have trouble reaching it. Even though it is a 30-50ms ping and it is connected to 3 tier1 networks on a 100mbit connection.

Eventually they go through so it doesnt matter to me much…

Same problem here. I can’t hardly use it. It either takes a long for Windows to update against it, or it times out. When I use ntp.org with windows, it syncs instantly.

On the NTP Server in Mikrotik 4.2, there are only 4 checkboxes and no other settings. Is that correct?
