High latency in wireless network

Hi,

 I’m new in wireless… can someone shared their knowledge regarding the “high latency in wireless networking”…
What are the usual problem or error cause from “high latency”?
Does ping test are good enough to show “high latency” error? or have other test can show the "high latency error?..

You may ask the google brother…

This question is very broad and many factors can cause latency such as quality of equipment from the client to the AP (cheap antenna, cheap CPE…etc), AP to the internet (cheap miniPCI…etc). Obviously there might be other equipment in-between the AP to the internet.

I think in your case you are either trying to determine if accessing a website has latency from your location or you’re connection to the AP unit has it. latency on either side affects how fast you see data.

Testing your overall connection to the internet you can use google search like “angboontiong” mentioned such as
ping test
traceroute test

There are many links out there, you should try for fun http://network-tools.com/ to get started.

To narrow it down, you can check the quality of your link from client to AP through the RouterOS page whether it’s Mikrotik or some other AP/CPE brand.
