Higher CPU usage on RB3011 after upgrade to ROS 7

Hi all,

On June 16 2022 I updated my Mikrotik devices from the (at this time) latest ROS version 6 (I can’t remember which one it was exactly) to ROS 7.3.1 (running 7.4 currently).
After that time I noticed an increased CPU load on the device constantly.

Before update constant CPU usage: between 1% and 3%
After update constant CPU usage: between 4% and 7%

Please also see the screenshot attached.

Is there anything known regarding increased CPU usage after updating to version 7?

It’s a different Kernel with a big rewrite of some of the RouterOS internals so it’s quite possible some extra resources are needed.

It also depends on how you router is configured. Fasttrack, queues etc.

Also between 4 and 7% hardly qualifies as high CPU usage!

Your CPU usage seems quite comparable to my RB3011

Can confirm, this is the CPU usage from a RB3011 upgraded from v6.48.6 to v7.4 on August 1, 20:20:

Yes, that does not qualify as “high load” - you are right there. I was a bit further in my mind because it reaches > 80% CPU usage during peaks (backup time e.g.).
I don’t have any fasttracks or queues.
I currently don’t see it critically but just wanted to know if this is a known status or if it only affects me and I have to dig into the configuration (reworking this either way currently).

I just fixed this by upgrading RouterOS and firmware to 7.4.1 on RB3011UiAS

Same issue. From 50-60 cpu usage of our 3011 to 80-90, running 80+ pppoe sessions(no firewall no nat on the router). Reverted back to ro6
