higher speeds

what is the exact cause of links not connecting at 48 or 54 mbps?

i have a link with -59, SNR approx 45, and noise floor -104—both sides/directions. the link holds steady between 24 and 36mbps, with occasional drops to 6mbps. speeds seem to hold steady upwards of 15-20mbps tcp. why will this strong link not go to 48 or 54mbps and this faster data speeds?

ps - this is not a config issue, nor interference, i’ve tested about every possible data rate and power setting, etc…t just seems 24/36mbps holds steady, and it will not go higher…

SR5 cards btw, so should be able to get 54mbps at only a -70…

thanx…

I never get my links to actually run at the max speed when it is perfect. I always end up setting it to ONLY operate at 54mbps.

How? If I don’t select 6mbps as an option, it does not even connect at all…

you have to lock both the basic and the data rates into 54mbps, not just the data rates.

if it won’t connect, try going down to 48.

i’ve also found that many times you can get better performance/throughput using a lower datarate (i.e. setting 48 instead of 54, or 36 instead of 48) because it is not re-transmitting as many frames.
