Home use

I am looking to get a RouterBoard setup for my home use. I have been looking at the site on the different setups but they are all good. I am have been looking at the RouterBoard RB2011UAS and Roc-Box D510 but want to get others opinions. I have provided a list of what I like to have. I hope the links for the two systems above give an idea on what I am looking for.

2+ radio (2.4GHz up)
802.11a/b/g/n (802.11ac support if possible)
Would like SFP (not required)
USB Support (x2+ if possible)
5+ Gigabit ports (more the better)
3G/4G support (not required)
Long Range Support (not required)

I would like to build one from scratch but want to see recommendations on what is best. I would like for power/performance if possible but not required.

The RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN (http://routerboard.com/RB2011UAS-2HnD-IN) has everything you are looking for except 5Ghz and one USB port and it’s available at a fantastic price point! The D510 is 6x the price (which seems quite expensive for home use) and doesn’t carry 6x the specifications of the RouterBOARD.

The 2011 series is designed with home use in mind and does have a version with 2.4GHz wireless.

The other unit is an x86 based platform and does not have WiFi built in. It can take a PCIe mini card for 3G/4G and can also take a disk drive if you want to run a web proxy. It is designed more for commercial/industrial use. If you have an interest in that direction email me and I can probably hook you up with a used item.

Out of the build your own kits, which RouterBoard would be the best to go with that allows for SFP? I really like to get one that will allow me to do Fiber as an option. I know with the build your own setup, I can get the radios that I need for the 2.4 and 5 GHz range with a/b/g/n options. Sense the D510 does not have Wireless, I will most likely pass on that one. Did not see that on my first read of the page. I would still like to get one for testing, if the price was right used.

Hello Olive.2011 series ids the best for all the other routers all the demand which you want is in the 2011 router..Its specially made for the house use..Its Range of catching the signal is too much superb. Its easily reachable to all the peoples.Price is conflict is also very suitable.

The 2011 has variants with SFP but the only wireless option is built-in.

Install a 2011 for everything it brings you. Add a SXT or groove, depending on where the AP is mounted in relation to your coverage area, to handle the 5Ghz access.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It is a great help. I believe I will go with the 2011 model and add on a SXT or Groove for the 5GHz band.

One more question. I know that the RouterBoard site has a list of vendors that provide the MikroTik products. Which on in the USA would you all recommend for ordering from?

I have sent you an email about that D510.

I’ve had decent experience with RocNoc for ordering Mikrotik stuff. Granted, I’ve only placed two orders, but they were there when I was shipped an improperly setup RB411AR and helped me ensure it was not damaged. (antennas hooked to the wrong outputs).
