Hi all, there some advantage between the horizontal and vertical polarization on an AP using a sectorial panel antenna of 60 degrees?
Is there a better choice to be made?
Best regards

There is no right or wrong depends on your RF environment. As general rule H pol is quieter then Vpol as there are many other consumer devices that are V pol particularly on 2.4ghz. In most cases you have more limited power available when doing distribution, so typically H pol can often perform better when horizontally polarized due to the lower noise floor. P2P is much less critical a you often deal with much higher signal to noise ratios and you have less chance of picking up noise on either polarization.
One more point to consider is that Vertical pole does penitrate light foliage better than horizontal.
Hi ejansson, thanks for your reply, just I see if I understood well: you said that the horizontal pole has some advantages over the vertial polarization if I haven’t problems on the RF environment? Am I rigth?
Thanks
Hi tgrand, sorry but I didn’t understand your answer. What is “penitrate light foliage”?
Thanks

Yes Horizontal can provide close to 20db of isolation form vertical polarized interference. Most other devices wifi, phones, baby monitors etc. are all vertically polarized. Many ISP’s will also be vertically polarized. You also have a slightly better selection of vertical pol. antennas too. So if you you are in the middle of no where vertical will be fine, If you have lots of interference Horizontal will help… Know your RF environment and choose accordingly.
Horizontal is also supposed to be better suited if you carry long range link across water.
