Hotapot stuff, please help

Hi friends, how hard is it to start a hotspot system with a credit card / paypal paying system where the clients can pay via a online system, and then they get a voucher via sms and email, will this be hard, and also to customize the login page with a company name, instead of that plain old Mikrotik logo… I really want to do this for my december project, will it be hard?

I’ve got a routerboard 750G L4

No, it’s fairly easy. The wiki covers all of that.

Most of what it sounds like you are looking to do will require building a back end system to handle. The MikroTik has some of what you are looking for with User Manager, but it will require a lot of set up on your part:

If you are looking for a more of a ready made solution, I can get you some information on the solution that we use at our locations that manages being able to take payments from guests, generate access codes, customize login pages, etc.

Well I will like to have a ready to go system, but the problem is, I am on one but the support and the system is very very bad, and I have to pay 10% revenue, so I thought of just starting my own because I have some time, and want to learn more and communicate with you guys..

If you want, feel free to reach out to my CTO aabramson(at)wi-figuys.com. He would be more than happy to go over what we use with you.

nice, is it hard to config because I have just started using my first routerboard 750G and dint know a thing, and someone help me out … to config some basic firewall and to split my network from a WAN to 2 LAN’s thats blocked from each other..

For the solution that we use? Not it is very easy to set up and use, we have a central server that hosts all of our login pages, just make the appropriate configuration and it works.

As for setting up two LANs and then separating them, that is very very easy to do.

/ip address
add interface=ether4 address=192.168.50.1/24
add interface=ether5 address=192.168.60.1/24
/ip firewall filter
add chain=forward action=drop in-interface=ether4 out-interface=ether5
add chain=forward action=drop in-interface=ether5 out-interface=ether4

You just need the appropriate NAT rules to allow people online and if you want to run DHCP or other services on those interfaces, set them up appropriately.

heavy… What hardware and what level license do I need? for a hotspot?

Depends on the size of the install and everything you are looking to do with it. The more complicated the rules, queues, and other services you are running on the box, the more CPU time it takes and slow down certain things.

We use 450’s for hotels with around 100 rooms, most of them see around 40-100 unique users a day running hotspot with PCC for load balancing, and some basic QoS rules. The CPU rarely spikes above 30% with what we have. When we get into the 200 room area we tend to go with the 450G. You can get by with the 750’s if you want, but we like the console ports on the 450’s. The 450’s come with level 5 by default, and that will be enough for you in most cases.

ok, I can only buy a “RouterBOARD 750G L4 with case and PSU” thats with a level 4 license, I’ve check out the guide on the config and it seems like hell to config..

I basically want a system that people can connect to and that they can buy a voucher with credit card..and buy vouchers with cash and… and also be able to add subscribers to the system

In that case you are looking more for some form of back end solution to manage guest access and login processes. The hotspot on the MikroTik is just part of the equation for that solution, it handles making people sign into the network to allow them access, you still need a back end solution to handle billing, access code/account maintenance and generate, and authentication.

As I mentioned in an above post, there are several solution out there that will handle the other parts for you. We have our own that we use and like it, it handles the credit card part very well, cash is more of a manual process, but there are ways that you can make the cash process easier on yourself such as generating a bunch of passwords and giving them out when someone comes in and pays cash.

You basically need to decide what exactly you are looking for the back end solution to handle, and either take the time and effort to use what tools are out there to build your own, or use someone else’s service that will take care of most of it for you.

interesting… I have been searching the past years for a solution but can’t find a good solution that is stable and 24/7 online and bug free, and I’m also picky with the revenue splitting
