Hi folks,
I recently configured an x86 to work as my bandwidth manager. But since I am a newbie to this and I have always learnt things by DIY method, I am still struggling with a few things ![]()
I configured HOTSPOT first and it worked good. The self designed login pages loading well on every computer or tablet or mobile device. I configured PPPOE and it worked good as well. The only problem with these was that I wasn’t getting user sessions etc.
So I configured RADIUS and there the problems started.
-
I was working with LEVEL 5 license so I very quickly maxed out with more than 50 users trying to login and users facing random disconnection.
-
The HOTSPOT thing became erratic as well, because now the HOTSPOT page would open at will. Even if the PC acquires DHCP IP the HOTSPOT page won’t open and after repeated refreshing and restarting of PC/TAB it would show up.
-
Lot of users facing Authetication Timed out or some errors as I could see in log.
UPGRADED to Level 6.
-
The PPPoE login works good. Authetication problem became a rare thing so I could understand it was some limitation of USER Manager and L5 license.
-
The HOTSPOT still opens at will. I just have to ask my users to keep trying

I still see PPPoE users getting logged out and logged it at random since their user id and passwords are saved into some kind of SOHO Routers. It dont think that such disconnects r regular feature, I guess may be I am doing some mistake in the config. Some users show …terminating… peer is not responding…disconnected and the next moment i see the user login … and sometimes i see just terminating…disconnected … & then …logged in

Some users showed authentication problem when I upgraded from ROS 5.12 to 5.18 and I had to delete them from user manager and recreate & it worked good. I don’t understand why.
I see several IP’s trying to login thru root or admin and by using ftp or telnet or ssh login , into my server. How do I stop that?
