I was wondering if someone could tell me what hardware router I should be looking at to support up to max 200 simultaneous hotspot users. The Internet links I support range from 25Mb/s to 50Mb/s and chances are I’ll be more in the 100 - 150 concurrent users.
I purchased a RB951G-2HnD for testing and it comes with a 200 user hotspot license, I’m just worried the thing will be crippled when 100-150 users login and try to get to the Internet. I should mention that I don’t plan on any wireless users…the 100-150, max 200 would all come through a wired port.
Should I instead spend more money and go for the RB1200?
For sure, these will NOT be wireless users that are associated to this RB951G-2HnD . I will backhaul all of my wireless users into this device via a wired port.
Basically I just need a hotspot “controller” and want to know which Mikrotik is best suited for my situation. If any of you are familiar with the Nomadix line of HSGs, I’m current using one of those and looking to replace it with a Mikrotik.
The 1100x2AH would be the way id go. You wont have enough memory in the lower models for any sort of queueing with that many users. They are also somewhat reasonably priced. Ive got one doing hotspot/dhcp/queueing to 25mb/w5mb and it barely breaks a sweat.
