Hotspot Hardware

Greetings,

Ive been wandering around the net for a decent hotspot solution only to discover that the trusty Mikrotik Routerboards will do the job just fine. I am however curious as to what hardware is common to a average hotspot installation.

Let’s say I would have a small amount of simultaneous connections, 12 with a internet uplink of 512kbit. Surely i would not need an extreme setup intended for high throughput ? Im guessing that a mere RB411, R52 and a 10bdi antenna would suffice, correct me if I’m wrong.

Can someone give me an example of their hotspot hardware config that’s currently in use?

Kind Regards

RB 411 can’t build as hotspot. So you need RB411A or higher that you can build as hotspot.

For how to make hotspot in mikrotikvyou can visit : http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/How_to_make_a_HotSpot_gateway

If you want use usermanager for your hotspot visit : http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/User_Manager/Hotspot_Example

I have indeed read those articles but i was more interested in the actual hardware used for the setup’s of MIkrotik users. e.g. did you use a 433 or a 433AH, kick ass radios, kick ass antenna’s or just something plain and simple ?

I’ve ever tried setup hotspot using 411AH, 433 and 433AH using R52. When I use 9 db omni antenna, its be able to covered arround 100 meters. If you want larger covered area you need higher gain of your antenna.
