HotSpot Installation

Dear Friends in Group
Hi,

I have some questions about HotSpot Installation concept and also an Issue that Im facing with.

Solution:
I have a Mikrotik Router (RB751u-2HnD , level 4 , version 5.16) in a restaurant and I need to setup HotSpot on it. there are 3 machines in restaurant that are in different subnet.

A>
Before all, I need to make sure whether Mikrotik Router should be install only as a HotSpot router and PPPOE Connection should be connect to ISP through another router OR i can configure PPPOE and HotSpot together on Mikrotik Router ? I’m asking because I saw a diagram that Internet router was an endpoint of Mikrotik for hotspot.

B>
When I configure HotSpot for WAN1 interface, it has effected on LAN Machines also but they are in different interface and mask.

C>
I need login page not be shown to WiFi users and only my advertisement page and count down button to surfing instead.

I appreciate to assist me.

Thank You

The hotspot feature of the Mikrotik is to force a way for people to see a login page and sign into the network, and is a layer2 function, therefore it should only be run on the layer2 interface that you want to supply those services for. Since you want to only offer it for wireless users, setup the hotspot on the WLAN interface.

Yes the router can work as the PPPoE end point for the ISP, just setup the client on the WAN facing interface. As far as the router will be concerned, it will just be another routed interface that it can use.

When setting up the router, since you only want to offer the hotspot on the WLAN interface, make sure that that interface is not tied to a bridge with other physical ports, it should be it’s own routed interface with an IP address, DHCP server, etc. The other physical ports can be switced or bridged together depending on what you want to do, and have their own DHCP server, IP address, etc. You should also firewall communication between the two LAN subnets to secure things as well.
