Hotspot...Is Mikrotik good enough?

I have a hotel that wants to add hotspot to its users. They want to do accounting and bill based on time usage. Does the Mikrotik do a good job of this? Are the reports professional enough looking or can they be exported into excel or something? Also, can it be set to allow a user to signup right from the initial page they get from the hotspot? Any information on Mikrotik or some other tool would be great.

A hotspot gateway / MT router alone will not be sufficient for a complete solution that will handle all the things you mentioned.
A complete solution will typically also require a radius server with an underlying SQL database and some custom webdesign and programming for user signup, accounting, billing, abuse detection etc.

Running a competent hotspot business amounts to more than just plugging in some boxes and expect everything to work like you’d expect it to…

The forthcoming radius / user-manager package for RouterOS might offer a solution to some of your needs, but it’s not yet available.
