Hi Everyone!
My first attempt at creating a Wi-Fi hotspot with RB450G. It’s for a hotel, so everyone would log-in using the same username/password.
Everything seems to be working fine and fast when I’m the only user, but once I switch the Wi-Fi network onto my new Mikrotik, and everybody logs-in, then web-pages load VERY slowly (15-20 seconds). If I do a speed test, the page load slowly, but the speed test shows good speed of 30/10Mbps. So it’s only an issue with loading sites, speed test shows good throughput.
I tried deleting the bandwidth restrictions on User Profiles, but that didn’t help much. DNS seem to be working fine as it resolves url to ip quickly.
I’m thinking that I did something wrong, or missed something since this is my first time. What could it be?
Thank you in advance!
One more thing -
I had used the “hotspot wizard” to create a few different hotspots, and then deleted them. Each time, I selected “masquerade” for the hotspot network, so it seems like I have 2-3 different “masquerade” entries for the same network (in NAT window).
Could this be an issue?
thank you!
What is the total bandwidth limits on the hotel internet connection? What limits do you have on each client? How many clients do you think will be logging in at the same time?
The WAN line is Comcast = 30Mbps/6Mbps
I had removed any bandwidth restrictions that I had previously, so no limits right now. I’d say there’s about 40 Wi-Fi users.
It seems that the problem went away now. I had changed several things, and can’t tell for sure what the issue was.
Here’s a few possibilities:
- removed multiple Masquerade entries for the same network (in NAT window)
- Changed “Addresses per Mac” (under HotSpot Server tab) to 1 (not sure what this means)
- removed any user bandwidth restrictions
Also, do I have to set “IP Bindings” for my AP’s? Why?
Please help me figuring out what may have went wrong.
