Hotspot mac issue

Hello,

With different ROS versions, currently ROS 6.13 Hotspot under hosts both natted and wan ip (also multiple mac-s) of cpe device are shown. No matter, the cpe is Mikrotik or tp-link. So, we have to delete them from hosts, as many clients have problems authenticate over radius server with mac.

What causes Mikrotik Hotspot to do such weird thing ?

Too much detail, the answer is too easy…

…ok, the one quick solutin is: addresses-per-mac increse to 2. But anyway its weird.

— too much details ? Question was simple:

In Hotspot under hosts sometimes we see multiple ip-s with same mac (cpe wan side and natted lan side) Why and how to eliminate this to show only the wan side?

Aleksander

This happen because the NAT do not NAT ack or fin TCP packet. Forward this type of packet to internet without substitute the real IP with natted one.

Why? because closing packet DO NOT HAVE ONE REPLY FROM THE DESTINATION, and it’s why is unchanged, is not necessary.
But this can show more than one IP form the same MAC address…

Also Range Extender / Repeater / Universal Repeater /etc. can cause multiple IP from same MAC.

Only on the second post the question is clear, I’m not english, but I think the first post is not clear…
