Hotspot nitification for mobile/desktop devices

Hello.

I am using Mikrotik hotspot feature and it’s very useful. But nowadays, very big percentage of mobile device users is not using browsers. Mostly they are using facebook, twitter, instagram, skype and other applications and mostly NOT using browser. So when new user connects to my free hotspot, it’s a big chance that he will never understand that this network using hotspot technology and he needs to login through the web page.

There is the solution for this problem. Once i connected to unknown wifi network with my android phone, after connecting, system notification popped up in my android that this is captivate portal and i need to enter credentials, when i clicked to this notification, browser opened with login page.

aaand question, is this possible with Mikrotik?

I googled and found that this type of notification have windows 7 and IOS too. so this is very useful.

interesting feature

This is not a Mikrotik feature. This is a device/operating system feature.

Without having done an in depth investigation I suspect that certain versions of Windows/iOS/Android check if they have internet connectivity once they are connected to a wireless network.

Mikrotik will work fine with this. Except if you put the address the operating system checks in walled garden.

The address that iOS checks is an html file in apple.com. Android does a similar thing but on a google.com URL. Not sure about Windows.

In short, it should work fine with default setup.

Yes, MikroTik already supports this, as “koktsa” wrote above.
