hotspot on a LAN

Hi,

One of our client runs a monthly gaming LAN over a weekend, with about 800 people. they want to incorporate the mikrotik hotspot with RADIUS/usermananger. Now the problem comes in when we want zero config, as in we want it that if someone comes in with their PC, no matter what their IP settings, they must get the login page for the hotspot.

Now I got this to work, sort of, but the pc’s had to have a gateway in. then the problem comes in with the LAN gaming, for that to work it needs to be local, but the IP that the hotspot assigns to the client is can’t be access from the other pc.

Is there a way to make this happen?

P.S. I need the hotspot to accept all arp request, I.E. they may not be able to access the network until they have logged in.

Hi,

put a pool in the hotspot profile. This is for 0 config, ROS will make the ip translation, but I thing that if some people has the same configured fixed IP you will have problems.

if that Monthly Gaming have a RB750 , Can Run a Hotspot on That ?
Like Give a 1Mbps to that RB750 and Create 128Kbps from the User Manager and Limit Mac to RB 750 ?

No, an RB750 isn’t nearly powerful enough for 800 users.

Also, how do you plan to split up 1Mbps in 128Kbps chunks between 800 users?
