Is it possible? Basically what I am trying to achieve is a centralized administration on both pppoe and hotspot.
Basically I have a ccr1036 which i configured one of the ports to serve as pppoe and I want to connect multiple omnitik ( bridged ) as a chain on this port.
Goal:
the clients can connect as a pppoe client via wired port to my omnitik and I can have a voucher based hotspot but all the connection or username and password ( access ) is via my ccr1036. This is to facilitate that wherever the client connects ( roaming as long as my one of my omnitiks could handle them ) is that they will not be tied to a particular ap ( omnitik ) .
Interesting idea. Not tried but I’d imagine you will need VLAN so the PPPoE and Wireless network are separate.
you can probably put them on the same interface without VLAN but that means running a DHCP server on this interface for hotspot users, while PPPoE users can also pick up an IP address from it which is less ideal.
I rethink the idea… I think I can go away with just a hotspot type setup… basically instead of pppoe I will just give client a hotspot access assuming that being on hotspot means they can connect to wired as well..
that’s easier to set up. In my view Hotspot is for users that come and go, like a hotel / shop scenario. PPPoE is more for fixed users who does not have to log in from every device under one account, and more suited in ISP type scenario.
Just fyi,
You could actually use the same port. Just point it to the same interface or bridge. Got it to work. Without any credential to either pppoe ot hotspot the connected device won’t have internet.
