I currently have about 380 users going through the hotspot. And now when the user’s are redirected to the hotspot splash page they get the servlet’s error page. I see these messages in /log
jun/30/2004 06:49:41 hotspot: failed to logout ip 128.64.28.119: message

Also when I try to do /ip hotspot active print or /ip hotspot print I get TIMEOUT.
Anyone?
Another thing to note is that the CPU was a consistant 100% for about the 5 hours or so that the hotspot was not working. I rebooted the Mikrotik box and it came back at 2%. Early this morning the Mikrotik box topped off again at 100% for about 30 minutes or so. Then it went back down to 11%. My co-worker suspects a user is infected with a worm.
I need to install a hotspot server and I need some advice.
How many users simultaneously do you have? Is it working fine?
That was 380 simultaneous users. At which point the hotspot wasn’t functioning (users who were already logged on were not affected, but new users who were trying to log on could not). Once we turned off the hotspot and just let wireless users through the number of dhcp leases went up to 560 or so. But I don’t know if this is a hotspot issue or worm/malicious traffic generated by a user affecting the performance of the hotspot.
The router itself can not be infected. To see who is generating traffic, use the torch utility (/tool torch , better looks in winbox).
And regarding the maximal number of users, it must be at least something like 1000 or even more.
