Hi all the clever guys here,
I have recently changed jobs from a corporate environment to a small but very dynamic ISP company so thrown a bit into the deep end, and also first time working with Mikrotik product, which I must say I am liking more and more every day I get more familiar with it, somewhere I read someone saying “Mikrotik, the Swiss Army Knife of routers…” and find it very true.
Going on my MTCNA course in a weeks time, but have a pressing issue at the moment that I need resolving and asking here for some guidance where to look / change.
We are a new WISP providing internet access in rural areas using Wireless + Hotspot technology. To enable us to get some form of money back, we make use of AAA services for authentication and accounting.
Have configured an Open SSID which allows the users to connect to the login page (External to Mikrotik), if they are not registered yet, there is a link on the login page that will direct them to the page where they must register. Once they have registered and do the login part, they get authenticated against the radius server all is well.
The problem comes in during the registration process which can take up to ± 5 minutes depending how fast you can type on a mobile device such as a cell phone, the problem being they are disconnected / dropped from the wifi before completing the registration process and then they have to complete the registration process all over again.
Unfortunately all info in the registration process is required for legal/legislation reasons and cant reduce this, I have played with all sorts of time out / id\le time settings but my understanding is these settings are after authentication / authorization and made no difference.
The strange thing is that we are not experiencing this with laptops, only cell phones and it seems like it is the way the cell phone handles the HTTP traffic.
Any ideas will be welcomed where I need to look at and how I can resolve this will be highly appreciated
Best regards,
