Hello All,
I have many free open hotspots and want to lower my initial hardware cost. Currently a normal hotspot setup cost is $230. I was looking at the RB411AR with POE to replace this setup to save about $100. All hotspots are small cafes with no more than 10-15 customers at any one time. I do not use any security or portal page on the hotspot. Users just come in and surf. I got two questions. Would a RB411AR be the best/cheaper setup and what POE adapter is best to use with it.
Thank you in advance,
James
The RB411AR would do, but I think I would use a RB433 instead. For about $10 US more, you can get 3 ethernet ports and 3 wireless slots. Room for expansion. Just my opinion…
Any ideas on a POE solution for the RB411AR or RB433? Looking at the streakwave website. Would the POE-18INT from wiligear work?
I don’t use PoE, but as long as it is less than 28v and no power on data lines, it should be ok.
Isn’t the point of POE is to have one cable run to the hardware for data and power. So if use the lan1 for data I would have to use the power port on the board with a mikrotik power supply since the RB411AR only has one lan port?
Maybe I wasn’t clear. There are PoE injectors that send the 18v power over the data lines and the ground lines. The PoE injector you need is one that sends power only over the ground lines. The digital signal power is ok on the data signal lines.
And you are correct. That is the point of PoE. One cable.
Thank you now I understand Just ordered the hardware.
