Hotspot with external DHCP

Is it possible to configure MT hotspot with external dhcp server i.e client will get
their ip against MAC from a linux based server.

This sounds like the same question i have except we have server 2008 doing our dhcp. Did you ever figure anything out or find an answer?

Thanks!

Configure a DHCP relay on the router rather than a DHCP server. Refer to the manual for details.

I tryed that but with that dont you have to have a different subnet? I want my wireless clients to use and have the same ip subnets as the ethernet clients on the other side of the Hotspot? 10.1.x.x/20 address.

Would setting up the hotspot over a bridged interface work by ip firewall rules? Just a thought?

Thanks,
Mike

No, you don’t have to use a different subnet with DHCP relay.

I will do some more googling. I tryed to get it to work but couldnt. I have it working on our routers as different subnets. When i tryed to do that on this it shows it is getting requests but not showing any answeres back. Do i need an ip address on both interface Eth1 and WLANA?

Thanks,
Mike

I was not able to get dhcp relay working but have hotspot working on a bridged interface and firewall rule to allow the client and server ports to forward withouth athenticating to hotspot.

Everything is working now but have an issue with hotspot and external webfilter. We use iprism and that will auto auth domain computers but non domain computers will ask for username and pass but i dont get that when on the hotspot i can ping the website but cant use a web browser dont ath to iprism webfilter.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike
