hi all, we just changed ISP and i have new IP address and DNS address, now i have logged in through winbox but i need detailed step by step guide on how i will create a new Static DNS IP for my new ISP, then chnage my WAN IP to the one of my new ISP.
I will really appreciate if i can get detailed step by step guide on how to do these.
when window opens, you can add press “+” to add new ip address. file the fields there, choose correct interface your ISP is connected to and apply, check if everything is OK with settings, using ping try to ping ISP gateway (TOOLS → PING)
Then go to IP-> DNS, when window opens, make sure you are on STATIC page and see button SETTINGS - press that, in servers field enter DNS of ISP, if you have several DNS ip addresses there is small black down arror beside that field - press that to get additional fields to file IP addresses in. If you have address set there already, just overwrite it.
here is the full detail of what i have before and what i did
this is the IP Address my ISP gave me IP address = 216.226.64.246
Subnet mask= 255.255.255.252
Gateway= 216.226.64.245
DNS server = 216.226.64.245
alternate DNS server = 204.14.40.44
now based on my image below, i was using linux server before and was using mikrotik as my hotspot biller, so one of the mikrotik ports was configured as DHCP whereby it collects ip automatically from the linux server, before the hotspot users will be able to browse that is why you are seeing the ip of the linux server thus 192.168.2.1, in the DNS area.
in the IP address image i inputed the ip address i got from my ISP, thou i am not sure of what i did, i was able to ping the ip ( 216.226.64.246 and 216.226.64.245) successfully but was unable to browse.
looking at the image below and my ISP ip address how can i configure another port and imput them correctly and browse with it, using the router as my new server and remover the linux entirely.
i hope you understand my naration well.
please help me and show me step by step guide on how to do this.
please where can i locate the ip route?
concerning the IP address, that what my ISP gave me, is working my linux server and tha’ts what the put in the modems option file they gave to me, is working in my linux server..
If that is what they issued, then stay with that. If you have only a public ip in the router, then you won’t be able to access 192.168.x.x ips unless you route them. Give me a second to find routes in Winbox.
