I would like to see the total traffic on an ethernet connection, I could set up a f/w rule… but is there not a command like ifconfig in linux?
thanks

please read the manual :
about firewall:
http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.8/ip/firewall.main
about monitoring total traffic (torch):
http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.8/tools/torch.main
sorry, what I mean is the total traffic that has passed through the interface since last reboot.
there is a utility called the traffic counter - maybe that is something you can use : http://www.mikrotik.com/download.html#traffic_management_utils
also read about accounting :
http://www.mikrotik.com/docs/ros/2.8/guide/aaa.main.11
Yes I’m aware of this, but it requies setting up then looking to see the data. I was hoping to find a couner in the router that is there by default. The router has been running for 2 months now and I just want the total data through ether0.
So it is more a planning problem on my side… I should have set up a counter 2 months ago but at that time I had other issues I was fixing.
running a default counter like this would be probably resource consuming and many users won’t use it, so we have this as an option which you can turn on if you want it.
