How do unmarked packets move through the HTB?

I’ve googled and searched the forum but I can’t find out what happens to packets which have no packet mark. Can someone tell me?

I know those packets are there because if I create a queue which is for packet mark “no-mark” traffic moves through that queue.

Those packets seem to be TCP overhead (SYN, RST, FIN), ICMP etc.

I’m curious at what priority those packets with no mark and no queue move through the HTB.

For kicks and to measure the amount of traffic they are I started marking the packets in mangle and queuing them. But then I stopped because it seems like others don’t bother with that.

I think this packets follow the same routes as marked packets, inside a router.
if no queue is defined for them, they have a “best effort” behavior i.e. the try to use all bandwidth not used by queue tree.
