How does wireless association work? Channel order?

Strange question, but i cannot find answer on google(probably bad keywords from me)

If I have a large room, and wanted to get for example 100 users onto a single RB433 (with 3 radio cards) how would the process work. Lets say im using chanel 1,6 and 11 using same SSID

A laptop comes along and connects to the wifi signal. What determines which radio he connects to- signal strength, channel etc? Would you then limit the max connection on the radio’s - assuming that the laptop/device gets a ‘cannot connect’ will it try another radio/channel of just fail?

Sorry, pretty basics questions for you, but ive never really given this side of things any thought.

the device will always connect to the strongest signal within it’s scan range (it won’t see channels it doesn’t understand). it will only connect to a different device after it’s disconnected from the current one (ie. if the signal changes later, it will not connect elsewhere unless signal is completely lost )

Thank you Normis.

So if the strongest signal radio was limited to 20 connection and full, the user would not be able to connect to that radio. Would the client device then try another radio, or just say ‘cant get on’

It depends on the client. You need to test and see.
